FLOODLAND FORESTS OF THE VALLEY OF THE ZHAYIK RIVERS AND CONDITIONS OF THEIR FORMATION

The paper presents the results of studies of floodplain forests of the river. Zhaiyk, developing under the influence of floodplain processes, the composition of alluvial sediments, the depth of groundwater and the morphogenetic properties of floodplain soils. The types of forests with a characteristic herbaceous layer occupying different levels of the floodplain are given. The riverine floodplain is characterized by the development of forests consisting of black poplar and shrub willows, white poplar with rhizomatous grasses and forbs; above that, smooth elm is mixed with forest species. In the central and near-terrace part of the floodplain, forests of elm, maple and poplar are common; oak forests occupy the higher elements. A significant place in the forests is occupied by bushes.
